Total Time: 30 min
Yield: 4 servings
Level: Easy
Recipe and Ingredients
1 pound ground turkey
1 cups Panko bread crumbs
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
1 tablespoon sage
1 tablespoon fresh thyme
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper, freshly cracked
1 cup cremini mushrooms, sliced (optional) = didn’t have/didn’t use
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup butter, unsalted = didn’t use
3 tablespoons canola oil
1 red onion, sliced
Favorite bread
8 pieces of your favorite cheese
Directions
In a large bowl, combine the panko, milk, egg, salt and pepper. If you have, add sage and thyme.
Add in the turkey and combine well. Form into patties (same size as the bread) and refrigerate for a few minutes.
While burgers are resting, in a large saute pan, heat 1 Tablespoon canola oil, add onions and saute 15 to 20 minutes or until nicely caramelized. Set aside, but keep warm.
In the same pan as the onions, add the mushrooms and saute 6-8 minutes over medium high heat until softened. Set aside, but keep warm.
Drain some of the oil and add in the turkey burgers and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side. Remove from heat, cover and keep warm.
Add the bread to the pan, place the cheese on bread, then place the turkey burgers on the cheese, pile with onions and the second piece of bread, repeat for all four burgers.
After 2 to 3 minutes, turn sandwich over carefully and brown on other side.
Arrange as pretty and as quickly as you can and serve. The origin calls for mustard and hot cherry peppers but you can use whatever other condiments your family likes or, you have in the fridge…
Dig in, enjoy and don’t forget to thank the cook!!!
