This Old Fashioned Is Making Me Feel

Well…Old!
Wednesday night I ventured out to Kensignton to the newly opened New Liberty Distillery.
A place known for their own brand of spirits, I tried the two specialty cocktails on the menu, the Tree Hugger and the Original Old Fashioned.
The morning after I learned that I don’t do well with specialty…or whiskey…or cocktails for that matter…Oy!
imageIf you’re a serious liquor enthusiast (particularly a local liquor enthusiast), you’ll likely know the name of one of the guys behind this spot, Robert Cassell.  Previously at Philadelphia Distilling, Cassell has apparently used his downtime since leaving to come up with the Cassell Distilling System, a custom-designed still set-up which serves as the centerpiece of the New Liberty Distillery operation.
imageWhile the whiskey slept comfortably waiting & aging for guests to arrive, Cassell and team decided that selling booze to the masses would not be their sole focus so, they’ve brought in Starr Events as a partner to handle the food and an event venue was created.
Upon arrival, I climbed the candlelit stairs to the massive 3 floor space…
imageand entered the whiskey making area that includes the still, fermentation tanks, mill & grain storage room, and bottling line. On this night, they provided a cool rustic canvas to the decor of purple orchid centerpieces, candles and party photo booth.
imageAfter sampling on delicious Starr hors d’oeuvres; these were mini sliders that sat atop a jumbo sesame burger bun.
imagethe party moved to the second floor where we were treated to a Southern BBQ spread of Pulled Heritage Pork, Chopped Black Angus Beef and all of the fine fixins’ they deserve.
imageWe ate seated on plush vintage couches surrounded by aging barrels of liquid gold. Among the spirits available at the Distillery are Kinsey Rye, Kinsey 7 Year Old, New Liberty White Whiskey and New Liberty Rye Vodka. The White Whiskey and Rye Vodka are Cassell’s first products made at New Liberty and what we were served throughout the night.
Finally, we headed up to the third floor for more cocktails, dessert and dancing!
imageAs I descended the stairs plugging home into my Uber app, I began to wonder if I might be getting too old for all this party stuff…the morning after I was sure I was ?
