It’s No Month of Alya but Today We Celebrate Something Greater, Aliyah Day
It’s no Month of Alya but it is Yom HaAliyah aka Aliyah Day, an Israeli national holiday celebrated annually according to the Jewish calendar on the 10 of the Hebrew month of Nisan. On this day, we commemorate the Jewish people entering the Land of Israel as written in the Hebrew Bible, which happened on the tenth of the Hebrew month of Nisan.
We almost made Aliyah when immigrating in 1980 but, our journey from Russia took us to the USA. Thanks mama & papa!
Like many immigrants who came around that time, we left EVERYTHING behind. Even precious family photos were ruthlessly torn up in front of us by Russian soldiers as we hauled ass out of a country that didn’t want us.
I hope to one day make Aliyah but that hasn’t stopped me from visiting the Land of Israel 3 times over. Most recently via Momentum, an organization often described as ‘birthright for moms’. I have yet to write about my journey but today, I share this with all of you who also have a love for the Land of Israel & support it as strongly as I do.
DYK, the phenomenon of aliyah, which means to “arise to Israel,” began nearly 4,000 years ago?
