Ballet and Fashion, the perfect Marriage

The collaboration between ballet and fashion dates back to the 1920’s when Coco Chanel was hired to design Sergei Diaghilev’s costumes and for me, back to when I was a chubby little kid in Russia trying desperately to fit into a too small tutu for the mandatory ballet class. Even that memory hasn’t deterred me from loving ballet but the marriage of fashion and ballet is that much more magical when they come together for a great cause.

The English National Ballet has invited top fashion designers to create tutus exclusively for its annual Summer Party taking place tonight at The Orangery, Kensington Palace.

The list of designers working on this project is straight out of a couture dream from Agent Provocateur and Kinder Aggugini to Moschino and House of Worth.  Each designer has chosen a dancer from the Company to inspire their creation and tonight, the dancers will model the tutus in a catwalk show, before they go on display for guests to bid on in a silent auction.

The shoes for the fashion show are designed by Christian Louboutin and Beatrix Ong and when I saw these Louboutin pointe inspired eight-inch stilettos I had to share.

Although I’ve never mastered pointe, I am a pro at the stiletto and still there is no way I could wear these for any significant length of time. The towering silk and Swarovski-encrusted heels and this fantastic tutu

designed by Erdem who has used ballet as a theme for his current fashion collections are just some of the unique items which have been specifically created for this auction that opened last Thursday and will close at 10:30pm tonight with the hopes to raise over £50,000 for the ENB.http://www.ballet.org.uk/
