Some of our favorite designers have dreamed up a very fashionable way to honor the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz: They’ve designed one-of-a-kind costumes for dolls, in various interpretations of the film’s leading ladies. Inspired by Dorothy, Glinda the Good Witch, and the Wicked Witch of the West, Trina TurkDonna KaranBCBG Max AzriaChris BenzJenny PackhamMarc JacobsBetsey Johnson, and Anna Sui are among the designers who have created glamorous looks for the dolls in a collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and the Tonner Doll Collection.
For the most part, the designers took nontraditional and avant-garde routes when it came to re-envisioning each character’s signature style. Many of them modernized their leading lady’s look—Benz was inspired by events in the film (the tornado) for his windswept gingham update for Dorothy (below, left), and Turk drew from the star’s adventurous spirit and transformed her gingham pinafore into a chic peplum jumpsuit (above, right). Karan and Packham both put an ethereal spin on the Wicked Witch’s look (above, left; below, right), while Lubov Azria used a ball gown modeled after her first design for Max Azria Atelier for Glinda’s BCBG outfit (above, center).

The miniature haute couture ensembles will be modeled on Tonner’s 22-inch dolls, which will make their debut during New York Fashion Week on Sept. 4, when they will become available for bidding by fans on eBay Giving Works. The charity auction will run until Sept. 14, with all proceeds contributing to the “There’s No Place Like Home” campaign benefitting Habitat for Humanity.
“These creations are beyond expectation—inspired, visionary and absolutely enchanting from head to toe,” says Robert Tonner, Tonner Doll Company CEO and acclaimed doll artist. “This is The Wizard of Oz and its leading ladies in a way you’ve never seen them before. Each doll is quite … bewitching, to say the least, and we are thrilled and honored to be a part of both the anniversary celebration, and generating proceeds for such a worthy cause.”
With the help of these incredibly talented roster of fashion designers, the leading ladies of The Wizard of Oz are going to transform the Yellow Brick Road into one unforgettable runway!
