Wet Bar DIY
It only took 15 years, at least on my watch, but who’s counting? What’s important is that the bar, our last big project in the apartment, is 99% complete!
Looking for the before pictures which I’ll post shortly but in the meantime, couldn’t wait to share our latest DIY project, the new wet bar…
What took so long you ask? Well, on top of finding the time to actually work on it…when I say DIY, I mean we did it ALL ourselves…deciding on the materials was difficult and took us forever. I find that it’s that much more challenging to work with small spaces and a precious few inches as opposed to large areas. It’s like picking out the one perfect accessory to go with an already awesome dress. That, and getting the ideal modern-to-timeless balance that fuses with the rest of the apartment was where we found ourselves for a very loooong time. Here is where we finally netted out, thoughts?
Carrera marble dimensional stone used as back splash and honed as countertop. Not only did we love the clean classic look of this stone but it also matched the fireplace surround and hearth…
As soon as I saw the Kohler Karbon Faucet, I knew I had to have it and went with the Articulating Deck-Mount in Stainless. It’s definitely at the higher price range but if you look long enough and do your research you might just get lucky like we did. This one was a design floor sample waiting for a good home, our home.
We went with a small but deep sink since it will most likely be used for ice and bottles when we entertain.
We went back and forth on the wine refrigerator and decided on the 24” Under-Counter Electrolux model. First of all, it is aesthetically pleasing with digital controls and perhaps the best feature for any wine cooler, LED lighting. LED emits zero heat and at 3 watts produces the same output as a 50 or 60 watt incandescent bulb. This is highly significant for wine as the tannins in wine are highly reactive to light and heat and you know I need my wine in tip top shape!
All in all we are very happy with the almost finished project with only a few final touches to go, can you guess what they are?
Here’s a closer view of the shelves, counter and backslash. The shelves are made of plexiglass and lit from the back with LED strips; Colors can be changed at the push of a button but I prefer when it’s on blue or green.
All ideas conceived and executed by us so if you have any questions, shoot them my way and now…I need to fashion myself a tall one!
Decisions…
Decisions…
Cheers!!!
