Summer In Paris
I have yet another reason to celebrate June 24th and it’s Les Soldes d’été!
Allow me to explain.
In France unlike in the US, sales are state-regulated and generally run during two periods of the year: once in the Summer, just before the massive exodus toward the sea and sun, and once in the Winter, shortly following Christmas.
Department stores, boutiques, designer outlets, and even hardware shops clear out items from the previous season, gradually slashing prices over the course of the sales period. So when did the 2015 Summer sale begin in Paris? You guessed it, on our Anniversary, June 24th…the day we arrived!
Over the course of our 6 day stay, I did a lot of window shopping and a bit of buying but on the last day well, that’s when we paid a visit to the magnificent Gallery Lafayette and oh mon dieu!
First inaugurated in 1893, the Galeries Lafayette is a Paris fashion institution located near the stately Opera Garnier.
An essential stop for global fashionistas and home of Paris’ gourmet food markets, Lafayette Gourmet aka #Parisfoodporn it’s a magnificent sight to be seen.
Even if you don’t plan on buying, you must check it out for the fantastic interior modeled after a mideastern baazar, Belle Epoque architecture and an Art Nouveau-style Coupole. All easily overlooked by the mayhem of the sale.
Thousands of people some with suitcases shopping like everything was well…going out of style and there I was. Surrounded by Balmain, Chanel, Louboutin, Yves Saint Laurent and then I saw it…Alaia!
I’ve been obsessed with his clothes and shoes for as long as I can remember and when I saw 50% off!!!
Well, I just couldn’t help myself and now, I’m introducing not one but two of my new Parisian babies to the rest of my closet…
Aren’t they fantastique!?
Merci and I hope that I’ve got you thinking Winter Sale in Paris!
