RIP Cute-Tip

You were a great pet rat and we’ll miss you!
Cringing are ya?  Yup, don’t blame you.  That was my initial reaction when confronted with the idea of a rat for a pet.  However, given the choice between a nasty foot-biting cat and a cute, cage-contained rodent, I chose the rodent.
Plus, how can I ever say NO to this face?

A few years ago, after 4…count them, 4 cats of varying degrees of temperament and cuteness, we became fancy rat owners.  Yes friends, that’s how you sell a fancy girl on a pet rat, call it fancy.
After the loss of our last and final cat, the boys waged a campaign for a new pet and the fancy rat prevailed over various other pets in the running.
The fancy rat is a domesticated brown rat (Rattus norvegicus), which is the most common type of pet rat.  The name fancy rat derives from the idea of animal fancy or the phrase “to fancy.”
Fancy rats have their origins as the targets for blood sport in 18th- and 19th-century Europe.  Specially bred as pets since then, fancy rats now come in a wide variety of colours and coat types and there exists several rat fancy groups worldwide.&nbsp. Fancy rats are commonly sold as pets in stores and by breeders.
This, and other information was included in the pitch I got and after a bit of selling, I was sold.
First, we adopted Cute-Tip and the next day, found her a companion, Anderson Pooper.

Pooper lived up to her name and was a good mate to Cute-Tip but died a short while ago.
Cute-Tip lived a nice long life -for a rat- feasting on family dinner leftovers many of which you’ve seen on my social media feeds.
She was a great pet and I hope that pet heaven treats her as well as we did!
