Parents Listen Up!
If & when you send your kid(s) over to my house I expect 2 things.
One, they are polite & actually utter the words HELLO, PLEASE, THANK YOU & GOOD BYE at some point during their stay.
Two. That’s it, I can’t think of anything else except…
Am I alone here people? Since when is it OK to show up at someone’s house; eat, drink, sleep, & then leave without so much as a single PLEASE or THANK YOU?
Hard to believe that there are over 500K search results for “how to be polite kids” & I didn’t hear one word of appreciation in the course of 24hrs!
As a parent, I’m always careful to model proper behavior for my son. We don’t curse at each other…ever! Of course we have used words like fuck & shit & know that he will too but not at each other…ever. Yes, we say PLEASE & THANK YOU to each other & guess what? We expect that he does the same when he visits his friends (& addresses their parents). I’m not buying that the world is different now. I’m not accepting that manners are no longer necessary. Be a parent & teach your kids that what they say & how they behave when no one is watching (& someone is always watching) is important & is a true test of character. I love this quote by John Wooden & would love to hear your thoughts on this!
Let’s at least be more like the kid who got a potato for Christmas in this Jimmy Kimmel YouTube Challenge. OK?
Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
