Don’t Call Me Lychee
Every day from 11am to 5pm, our new favorite South Beach hotel, serves up an incredible selection of locally sourced organic fruit. On day one, it was dried fruits and nuts of every kind from almonds to hazelnuts. Today, we were treated to pears, plums, and rambutan.
At first, I was sure that these furry little fruits were lychee but after Jacob emptied out the display, I had to make sure.
In case you’re curious, the rambutan is a medium-sized tropical tree in the family Sapindaceae. The name also refers to the fruit produced by this tree. The rambutan is native to Malay-Indonesian region and other regions of tropical Southeast Asia. It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits including the lychee, longan, and mamoncillo so I wasn’t that far off.
After announcing that he has found his new favorite fruit, Jacob also declared that when it’s time to propose to his future wife, he’s going to forgo the diamond and do it with a lychee.
Phil’s response? “Good luck with that pal!”
