Discovering The Wynnewood Walls
I’ve been coming to Miami since the 80’s so how is this the first time I’ve visited The Wynwood Walls?
Conceived by the late Tony Goldman in 2009 who was looking for something big to transform the warehouse district of Wynwood, he arrived at a simple idea: “Wynwood’s large stock of warehouse buildings, all with no windows, would be my giant canvases to bring to them the greatest street art ever seen in one place.”
Starting with the 25th–26th Street complex of six separate buildings, his goal was to create a center where people could gravitate to and explore, and to develop the area’s pedestrian potential.
The Wynwood Walls became a major art statement with Tony’s commitment to graffiti and street art, a genre that he believed was under appreciated and not respected historically.
In 2010, Goldman Properties added 10 more artists to their roster of Walls when they opened the Wynwood Doors, Tony Goldman’s nod to traditional portrait galleries and expanded the mural program outside the Walls.
Since its inception, the Wynwood Walls program has seen over 50 artists representing 16 countries and covered over 80,000 square feet of walls. They have become a must see international destination and made the list of America’s hippest neighborhoods which is why, we chose to hold our first agency event here.
Little did I know that it was going to be one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever been a part of. Read on and if you haven’t been to the Wynwood Walls, then you must add it to your must see list!
The ladies posing in front of one of the many gorgeous murals at the Faena Hotel before getting on the bus to Wynnewood…
The weather was perfect and the sun was starting to set as we pulled up to The Wynwood Walls…
We took a private tour of the Gardens and below, are a few of my favorite murals…
We then entered the private event space and were greeted by this incredible setting along with a DJ and an electric violinist both of whom, jammed all night as we ate, drank and danced…
The incredible team that pulled it all together.
This artist had us contribute to our very own mural that will be displayed in one of our offices.
My new buddy serenaded us all night with his beautiful electronic violin..
The ice cream station that I need to replicate for Jacob’s birthday!
What an incredible and inspiring evening to be surrounded by such talent and beauty!
