About Last Night
In January, Travel + Leisure magazine published an article about the best new restaurants in the World. Yes, the world and building on the amazing buzz Philadelphia has been receiving in recent months, declared 4…count them 4, of those restaurants to be in the City of Brotherly Love.
Naturally, I thought that I had hit them all and then I read the article and realized that I had not…not a one!
That changed last night when I finally experienced Abe Fisher…
According to the article, Philadelphia has become one of America’s most exciting food cities, “Portland East?”—with a fierce indie spirit and world-class kitchen talent.
On the list are 2 New York transplants, Peter Serpico and his namesake Serpico and Eli Kulp’s High Street on Market.
Then there is my personal favorite, Michael Solomonov. He and Steve Cook of Zahav, Federal Donuts and now…Abe Fisher and adjacent Dizengoff are both on the list and after last night, I couldn’t agree with T+L more!
Inspired by the hummusiyas of Israel, the color-splashed Dizengoff is where earthy chickpea purées reach the stratosphere—especially when topped with heirloom zucchini and za’atar.
Next door at Abe Fisher, co-chef Yehuda Sichel spins deliciously irreverent riffs on the foods of the Jewish diaspora. Here, “borscht” is a beet tartare garnished with jewel-like trout roe.
Short of the Hungarian Duck and the Montreal-Style Short Ribs, I’m pretty certain that we tried everything on the menu…
Those 2 items need to be pre-ordered so if you’re going don’t forget and pre-order! Wish someone had told me when I called to make the reservation but thay doesn’t mean that you have to make the same mistake.
And yes, we had dessert and it had bacon and it was delicious…
Glad I took these pictures because this is all I remember about last night and I guess that’s all that matters, right?
