A Recent Convo About Tapochki Inspired This Post
A recent conversation with a Russian girlfriend about kids, family, & tapochki (look it up my American friends) got me thinking about this post I shared a few years ago, 10 Things Russian Moms Do That Every American Mom Should Try. When I went back to revisit it, I was shocked to find that tapochki, a staple in every Russian home, were not on the list. So, here’s an update one, as an ode to my heritage & two, to my tapochki-hoarding ways. While I have a globally sourced slipper collection, many of which are still in their original packaging, I’ve never asked my guests to change into slippers.
For one, most show up to show off their shoes. Others are not prepared to bare their bare toes, while others are simply Americans & would find it rude & we immigrants are not rude…much! Here’s an interesting article, Welcome, Please Remove Your Shoes that tackles the tapochki obsession & how this “fashion” staple came to become so important within the Soviet home. Would love to hear your family traditions, superstitions, or other cultural nuances that we can all learn from. XoXo
