A Little Fun in Little Havana
When in Miami, we rarely stray from the comfort zone of Collins, Lincoln and Ocean Drive.
Primary, because Miami is our lazy place but really, because there’s no reason to or, so I thought.
Recently I’ve been reading a lot about all of the great development going on in and around the Magic City and curious to see what all of the buzz is about, we ventured out.
Our first adventure took us to Miami’s famed Cuban neighborhood, Little Havana for what else? Cuban food!
After a quick search, we hailed an Uber and made our way to Versailles, the neighborhood’s most famous culinary landmark.
The huge, mirror-lined restaurant was packed with loud families inside and a line of hungry locals and tourists outside. The line moved surprisingly quick and within 15 minutes we were seated and ready to chow down.
We started with a pitcher of Sangria and a Tropical Ceviche. We then ordered a Cuban Sandwich, a Cuban style Roast Pork and a ‘Ropa Vieja.’
For the full experience, we ended our meal with a couple of Cuban coffees and a Dulce de Leche.
We all agreed that the food wasn’t anything special but that it was a fun and somewhat authentic experience.
By the time we finished, it was fairly late so, at the advice of a few locals, we decided to head back to our comfort zone.
To experience the sights, sounds and smells of Little Havana (aka La Pequeña Habana), I think that next time we’ll go straight to the source…Cuba!
Next up, our dinner at the new and fabulous Komodo.
